What made you become the photographer you are today?

I think that my pursuit for capturing minimalism, as seen in the image, has allowed me to get where I am today. I always balance the elements of the whole picture, including composition, to make them look as simple as possible. ‘Less is more’ is the style in all my work.

What does the X System camera do for your photography?

The first benefit of the X1D as the world's first mirrorless medium format digital camera is that it’s light. This is perfect because I mainly shoot buildings and landscapes, so I need to walk around a lot with my camera – the X1D helps me lighten my load. The electronic viewfinder is very accurate, allowing me to preview the image reliably after it is taken. And of course, Hasselblad's Natural Colour Solution goes without saying – it produces the most accurate colors, which is very helpful later on in my workflow.

Tell us the story behind how you created your image.

This photo was taken at a hotel in Linzhi, Tibet. Because I’m fascinated by parametric architecture, this building caught my eye among the picturesque sights of Tibet, so I decided to take out my X1D II and shoot the image. The building has countless windows that are concentrated symmetrically, allowing me to find a sense of order in the architecture. Each room sticks out of the building in the perfect arrangement so that when the sun hits the building at the right time and casts a shadow, the entire geometric plane becomes three-dimensional.
