H6 System

For the photographer who demands nothing less than the best from their digital camera, we present the H6D-100c. Its large sensor offers an almost full field-of-view from our HC & HCD wide angle lenses and is capable of recording breathtaking detail, even in poor lighting conditions.

The all new H6D-100c is the latest generation of our H System camera and offers the highest quality output from any digital camera in today’s market.

100MP CMOS Sensor

Continuing the success story of the 50MP CMOS sensor we have added a 100MP option to the range, delivering unmatchable image quality and the ability to resolve the finest detail with our HC & HCD lenses, whose pedigree has long been proven through use with our 200MP Multi-shot systems. The 100MP sensor boasts an incredible 15 stops of dynamic range, allowing for maximum detail to be captured in both highlight and shadow areas. The sheer breadth of tonality that can be captured with the H6D-100c has to be seen to be believed.

New Electronic Platform

The already compelling case for medium format capture has just become substantially more attractive. The entire electronic platform of the H6D has been redesigned with a fast, new generation processor to handle the advanced features of the camera. This improved speed allows a faster shooting rate of up to 1.5 frames per second that can be sustained for longer, thanks to an increased buffer.

The new 3” high definition rear display boasts touch capability with user customisation options including assigning favourite functions to touch buttons. We’ve increased the resolution to 920K dots and the image display performance delivers clear, colour accurate image reviews and a pin sharp Liveview experience.

UHD & HD Video

Thanks to the redesign of the electronic platform, the H6D-100c is capable of capturing UHD (4K) video in Hasselblad’s proprietary RAW format which can be converted to Cinema DNG in Phocus. HD footage can also be captured in H.264 format which is compatible with all popular editing packages. Coupled with the HDMI and audio facilities, the capture of high quality video output is simplicity itself.

Phocus 3.0

To complement the release of the H6D camera system, our image processing software has been enhanced with additional tools to allow more precise application of corrections.

USB 3.0 Type-C Connector

We’ve opted for a USB 3.0 Type-C connector to allow connection to any platform without the need for an adapter. It also delivers very fast transfer rates of more than five times that of Firewire, ensuring tethered liveview or stills capture is an experience to be enjoyed.

Dual Card Slots

We have added a second media card slot to the storage options and updated the card types to offer maximum flexibility. The CFast card slot offers very high speed data transfer rates and is uniquely qualified for use with the high data bandwidths required for HD & UHD video and continuous stills shooting. The industry standard SD card slot ensures very good data transfer rates and wide ranging compatibility with existing card readers.

Mini HDMI & Audio I/O ports

The addition of a mini HDMI port along with the associated input/output ports enables videographers to display the video feed on a larger external monitor for audio and video files. It is also a huge advantage to photographers using liveview to check composition and focus when using a technical camera.

Updated H Series Lenses

To take full advantage of the H6D’s new features, we have also updated our entire range of H series lenses and incorporated a new shutter unit with an extended lifespan and an increased top shutter speed of 1/2000th second, when used with an H6D camera. And of course, having a leaf shutter means that flash sync at all speeds is still possible.

As Hasselblad celebrates its 75th anniversary, our Swedish craftsmanship comes to the fore: driven by our passion for excellence, based on our uncompromising image quality, design and performance and drawing on our core strengths, we present a new chapter in medium format photography.
When we put one of our first Hasselblad H6D prototypes in the hands of London-based portrait photographer Tom Oldham we told him he could ‘test-drive’ it wherever and however he wished. And he did. With a fitting touch of irony, Tom took it to Hasselblad’s homeland, Sweden – and teamed up with two of the fittest young athletes in the country for a punishing three-day shoot.
"My concept for the shoot was to celebrate the new camera. I wanted to create something that emulated the colours of the camera, the colour scheme and the new dynamics. But I also wanted to really put the camera to the test." – Karl Taylor
Why a new electronic platform?

To maximise the performance of the sensor and increase file throughput. It also enables video.

Can I customise the touchscreen display?

Yes, including language preferences.

Why no thunderbolt?

USB 3.0 is the industry standard allowing both Mac and PC users equal compatibility.

Why CFast?

This allows us extremely high data transfer rates that improve continuous shooting.

Why have you dropped CF compatibility?

We included a CFast and an SD card slot to add maximum flexibility compared to a CF slot.

Can I capture JPEG images?

Yes you will be able to capture 1/4 size JPEG files.

Can I select which media card to save images on?

Will the current H lenses be compatible with the 100MP sensor?

Yes, 100%.

Can I use Phocus 3.0 with my old Hasselblad files?

Can I shoot tethered with my older Hasselblad?

Yes. Phocus 3.0 supports tethered shooting on all Hasselblad Firewire and USB equipped cameras.

Can I capture RAW video?

The H6D is capable of outputting H.264 format as well as Hasselblad’s proprietary RAW video format which can be processed as Apple ProRes format. The H6D-50c outputs HD video and the H6D-100c is capable of UHD video.

How is it possible that the shutter speed could be increased that much?

By improving the operation speed of the exposure unit in the lens, and incorporating the improved readout speed of the CMOS sensor, we have been able to attain the 1/2000th shutter speed.

All lenses can cover up to 100MP+ sensor resolution. How did we measure that?

Each of our lenses has been tested on our optical bench imaging resolution charts. These are then read and the attained levels checked against our internal target values.

Does that mean a 200MP sensor/camera will be launched soon?

No, there are no plans to release a 200MP sensor/camera as there is no 200MP sensor available or in the pipeline from any manufacturer.

Do we still have a “slight gap/space” using the large sensor (53 x 40mm) with our HCD lenses (not HC) like with the 60MP sensor?

Yes, the smaller image circle and the slight gap in coverage is the same as the 60MP sensor.

SD and CFast cards: can CF cards still be used?

No, unfortunately the CFast card slot is not compatible with the CF cards used in previous models.

Why HD/2K video with the H6D-50c and UHD/4K video with the H6D-100c?

Thanks to the data bandwidth required for UHD video, it is not possible for the H6D-50c to achieve the frame rates required for UHD video. The H6D-100c platform has a larger data channel and so can achieve the required bandwidth.

CFV-50c: will all H6D features be integrated into future CFV backs?

In the next revision of the CFV back the relevant and compatible features will be added.

I have a H5D-50c; will I be able to receive a firmware update to enable me to shoot at 1/2000th sec?

Unfortunately this will not be possible. However, with the upgraded exposure unit fitted to your lenses, you will be able to shoot at 1/1000th sec.

Does the H6D offer any image stabilisation?

The H6D has no built-in stabilisation function. Third-party accessories offer this feature.
