Jan Grahn — Still going strong,
Digitally and Biologically
What happens when you have been in photography for fifty years and a revolution takes over. You could sit down and pretend it hasn’t happened or you could, as Jan Grahn has done, meet it face on, ready to take on the challenge.
‘Better the enemy you know than the enemy you don’t know’? Not quite. Jan Grahn has grown from his encounter; he has seen the benefits and now appreciates the advantages a great deal. He has experienced the possibilities with a Hasselblad CFV digital back that retains the square format he loves to work with. He is a convert, if you like, and will not be going back to the old ways. However, if you have been in photography for over fifty years then there will be some habits, some ways of working, even some faithful piece of equipment that you would find it difficult to just leave behind. Jan is no different, he thinks in zone system terms, for example, and tied in with that thought is his beloved 205FCC, the flagship of the V-system. This model is now discontinued but lives on with enthusiasts. Jan Grahn is one of them.
