Malaysia-based international award-winning photographer Kevin Then is an expert in the business of dreams.
Hasselblad Master Kevin is constantly reinventing his creative approach. He founded his business in Johor ten years ago and, using Hasselblad medium format cameras and pioneering digital capture techniques, he quickly developed a world-wide client base, working for clients like L’Oréal Paris, Shiseido Japan and a wide range of global magazines – alongside the production of a raft of promotional material for Hasselblad itself.Kevin strives to capture the spirit and blur the lines that separate commerce and art.
Now, as a pre-eminent portrait and wedding photographer he has become well-known for making wedding couples look like film stars.
“A wedding photograph shouldn’t just be that typically traditional shot of a bride standing around wearing a wedding gown” he says. “I must make the day far more dramatic and romantic. Like a film director, I need to have the picture set up in a certain way with the bride’s dress, the veil, the face, make-up and hair, all perfect. These images will stay with the couple for their whole lives. My ambition is always to strike a chord.”Kevin reveals that when he became a Hasselblad Master in 2008 it changed his career forever. He now has a string of international photo-honours from a number of photo associations including the WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) and the RPS (Royal Photographic Society).
