No photographer becomes a professional without the help, advice, and teaching of another photographer. We are part of a process and acquire knowledge from those who went before us. Hopefully we will be generous enough to pass on the little we know.
Burt Glinn and Bill Stettner were the two primary photographers who allowed me to apprentice with them. I learned much about the craft and art of photography from both. I learned more about story telling, the human condition and the business of photography from them. The essential thing I took away from my training with them was that I have only one thing as a photographer, my point of view. This year I mark thirty years working as a professional photographer. They were right.
